The Takeaway: Not one of the strongest municipal courses found in Eastern Idaho, Jefferson Hills is mostly enjoyed by locals that aren’t compelled to drive 15 minutes to the superior Teton Lakes layout in Rexburg. Rarely busy, this can be a good stop on your way to West Yellowstone if you are driving in from the south. Grade D+

What to Expect: Jefferson Hills is a modest course located 90 miles south of West Yellowstone near Highway 20. Water is found on over half of the holes but it isn’t as treacherous as it sounds since the design leaves many of the hazards out of play except on the worst of shots. The flat course features just one par four over 400 yards and no par fives over 500 yards, so you don’t have to be long to have your way at Jefferson Hills. The course is rarely busy and the patrons are as laid back as you’ll find at a club that touts itself as semi-private. The course’s most memorable hole unfortunately is also its worst hole; the quirky 232 yard dogleg par four 9th where an 8-iron is about the maximum length club you can take off the tee. In the end, the course is a fun track to play with your family and is quite affordable (season pass for less than $500), but there are some better options to pull off the road and play on your way to Yellowstone.
