Rankings:

The Takeaway:  More of a player’s experience than Top of the Rock, Mountain Top requires more game to get around successfully. With virtually no forced carries, this is also the best course for kids at the resort.  Grade B

What to Expect:  Mountain Top offers a contrasting experience to the more mature Top of the Rock par three course. Mountain Top is 13 holes, walking only, and is along the ridge tops. Top of the Rock in 9 holes, carts only, and is set above the lake. In addition, Mountain Top has a much greater variety of hole length and shapes to contend with which gives it more long term playability and enjoyment. The course delivers distant expansive views across the tree covered hills while having several holes highlighted by the natural rock that the region is so well known for. Unlike Top of the Rock, Mountain Top features no forced carries which makes it perfect for kids and beginners to enjoy but it also allows for some creative approach shots for better players to execute. As a side note, Riksha pull carts are available, and complimentary, if players don’t wish to carry their clubs.

Individual Hole Analysis

Signature Hole:  13th Hole – 95 Yard Par 3 – With the signature Big Cedar Lodge rock formations along the left and setting the background, the final hole at Mountain Top visually is a stunner. With less than 95 yards to cover from the back tee, you'll have a wedge in your hand that you should feel confident going flag hunting with. The green is slightly raised so play it an extra five yards and see how close you can stick it.

Best Par 3:  8th Hole – 196 Yards – With a large rock formation on the right and a sweeping half moon bunker on the left, the 8th is a strong one-shotter to contend with. When the pin is on the right there is plenty of forgiveness and you can go dead at the flag, but when tucked on the left the slope and sand can create concern for the player to contend with.

Birdie Time:  4th Hole – 82 Yard Par 3 – This is a dream distance to have for many players. With a sand wedge in your hands and no trouble between the tee and front of the green, players should have confidence abounding. While a bunker is on the left, it shouldn't even come into the player's mind unless the flag is tucked within four yards of it.

Bogey Beware:  2nd Hole – 221 Yard Par 3 – Gary Player isn't messing around with the 2nd hole, it is flat out tough! The hole tips out at 221 yards and plays uphill the whole way home. The plateau green creates a sharp visual edge at the front of the putting surface and will confuse players on whether to fly it all the way to the blind target or try to chase it over the front edge. If you can take a par here, you should be licking your chops the rest of the round.
