The Takeaway: Originally opened as a private course, Quintero made the switch to public and quickly rose up the ranks of places to visit in Arizona. The huge elevation changes provide memorability for first time visitors but that is countered by an extreme design that would be difficult to embrace on a daily basis. Grade B-

What to Expect: Quintero is a big course located in the hills of Peoria about an hour from Phoenix's Sky Harbour Airport. The course features several elevation changes and a dramatic set of par 3s, three of which play WAY downhill. If you are familiar with Rees Jones courses then you'll feel right at home with the bunkering style and strategy involved at the course. For the most part you can stand on the tee and know exactly where you need to place your tee ball, but there are some holes where some of the fairway isn't visable. Overall, Quintero is a dramatic course due to the elevation changes and overall length (over 7200) with par 3s that you won't forget and par 5s that present a variety of excellent challenges.
