The Takeaway: The newest of the municipal golf courses in Idaho Falls, Sage Lakes is a fun layout where you can go low as long as you stay out of the water hazards. The setting is nothing to write home about with a routing through a residential development on flat ground, but offers affordable green fees. Grade C-

What to Expect: Sage Lakes is the newest of three municipal courses owned by Idaho Falls and located north of town. The course plays to a par 70 due to the six par threes that are found on the property. The flat terrain is easy to walk and the immature trees give a wide open feeling to the course where you’ll feel like grabbing your driver on every hole. Eight man-made water hazards are found on the course and provide the main source of challenge on this tame layout that features about one and a half bunkers per hole. All of the holes are relatively straight which devoids the course of some interest and the perimeter of the property is lined by homes. With nothing on or around the course to slow down the elements, Sage Lakes is known to get windy which adds variety and challenge to the course. But as of now, the young layout still plays second fiddle to Pinecrest and Sand Creek for municipal golf in Idaho Falls.
