What to Expect: After a lengthy working relationship with Tom Weiskopf came to an end, Jay Morrish made a solo effort with the Mine Shaft course at Scottsdale National (formerly known as The Golf Club Scottsdale). The course stretches out over 7500 yards and follows the natural contours of the ground. The final stretch of holes (15-18), known as Gambler’s Bluff, brings the course to exciting climax with a stunning par 5, downhill par 3, short par 4, and a lengthy two-shotter. Natural brush and cactus encompass the non-playing surfaces around the course while hundreds of bunkers provide a challenge within the playing territory. The fairways are generous but a full view of the landing areas are rarely offered from the tips.
