The Takeaway: Highlighted by the few holes along the sand dunes, Sand Creek is a pleasant municipal course with enough trees to frame the holes but open enough to recover from poor shots. It isn’t a destination course, but is a nice family course especially due to the six hole short course found on the north side of the property. Grade C-

What to Expect: Located southeast of Idaho Falls’ city center, Sand Creek is aptly named due to the natural sand dunes and creek that is found on the property yet ironically doesn’t feature a single bunker on the property. Other than a couple of holes, the course is free from residential development and a large pond comes into play on the back nine. Despite the lack of bunkers, the layout is such that it keeps the golfer’s attention through hole shapes and with the water that comes into play on half the holes. Trees are found throughout the property to frame the holes but are sparse enough to play around or through when the situation calls for it. The clubhouse, opening tee, turn, and 18th green are all found on an elevated portion of the property while the rest of the course is relatively flat and very easy to walk. The course features a full driving range as well as a six hole short course that is a popular destination for juniors and family outings. Pinecrest has always been the king of municipal golf in Idaho Falls, but Sand Creek has it’s own following of loyal patrons that appreciate a different style of course and challenge.
